It is the definition of an International friendship- she’s Dutch, I’m English and we met living in Sydney Australia. After far too long apart it was time for a quality catch up and lucky for me I chose the best weekend to do it- Euro Pride in Amsterdam.
We started the way all good days start- with a brunch and a bloody Mary. I went for perfectly poached eggs with lime avocado on toast at Lotti’s.
EuroPride itself takes places primarily down the canal. The Dutch tie up their boats and load it with drinks, people and fun whilst parade boats go through the middle. The atmosphere was that of a festival.
The parade boats themselves blew me away! We had fabulous drag queens singing Mowtown, boats of men dancing in synchro to Jess Glynne, there was a boat throwing roses & people were blowing kisses. When one boat came through silent with everyone dressed in black I was let down- until they all sprang up and started dancing! People jumped from out boat into the water, onto the parade boat for a quick dance only to jump back in and swim back.
With all the recent attacks on the gay community, I felt especially proud to be part of such a union of love, fun and celebration of the incredible accepting community we are capable of having.

They finally caught me…!
A highlight of my day has to be however my giant penis balloon- I mean, who can resist a smiling willy!
Euro Pride was the most incredible experience & I’m already planning my next years visit…
